MEMBER PROFILES
Nicknames: Danesh, Moostache,
Bats: See ball hit ball (nah but seriously he has a lovely drive and clip through mid wicket when he gets going)
Bowls: Left arm seam. Almost always with scrooge like economy! Must be the left arm thing. Should be illegal really ;)
Bio: Danesh (like his older broseph) has been around the club now for many years already. He came through a very successful junior career and continued progressing into a genuine all rounder for our 3rd XI. A less frequent sunday player but a talent well worth pursuing. Moostache is a studious, well spoken scholar of the game and a keen musician as well. A lover of the guitar (as his picture shows) and most legendary guitarists whom he enjoyes sharing with us online from time to time.
Glasgow uni life may well limit his appearances over the coming seasons but hopefully he's still around for some action during the summer breaks.
GENTS LEGENDS SECTION...
Name: Gerald Heath
Nicknames: Merlin, Silver Fox, Geraldinho
Bats: Tail ender by nature (& often request!) Maintains his stubborn belief in his favourite sweep shot!
Bowls: The quaintest of off breaks. His sometimes confused exterior conceals a cerebral approach to the situation in hand!
Bio: By FAR the Gents longest playing member! A man of morals and integrity, Senor Heath harks back to the byegone days of black and white television sets, top hats and penny farthings! (ok maybe not that far back!!) A proud link between the past and present gents side with a fascinating insight (Geralds Myths & Leg-ends NO LESS!) into the way the club has found it's way to the present day. The Silver Fox is famous for his tastes in headwear as well as his impressive stool he takes out when umpiring at square leg! Merlins a tough man to track down these days being the globe trotter he is. When he does take to the field he still regularly produces important wickets for the side :)
As we continue to see the old school/sunday only contingent fall by the wayside it's always been a reassuring site to see Geraldinho don his trusty sweater and join us for another battle!
After many unofficial threats to retire Gerry finally officially hung up his bowling boots after a wonderful
5-23 at Amberley in September 2017. IF it does prove to be the last time he ever plays then what a way to sign off!!
A TRUE LIVING LEGEND!
MEMORIAL SECTION...
A memorial game took place in Angmering on the 4th of September with former teammates from both Angmering and us Gents in attendance.. It was a very poignant way to mark such a tragic passing and has now become a regular fixture on the calendar.
The world truly is a worse place without him..
We continue to play for one of his old bats (signed by all those who played in the 1st fixture and quite a few since!) with which us Gents have held for the last game or two.
2017 was the first game since the sad passing of Andy White in November 2016. At only 41 he was taken from us all far too soon. Loved and appreciated by many (Standing room only at the funeral would vouch for that) "Andy Blanc" was a keen poker player as well as being an Angmering cricketing regular for many years (He also filled in for us Gents on at least half a dozen occasions) We will from now on be playing the annual fixture in honour of the both of them and may they rest forever in peace.
AND last but nowhere near least!!
THE WEBSITE CREATOR!!!
Name: Helen 'Super Scorer' Stone
Nickname: Chesney
Scoring style: Practically perfect in every way, vibrant in colour and precise in nature,
the finished product would certainly not disgrace the walls of Tate Modern!
Bio: Co-conspirator with Neil 'Skipper' Harris in ways to dispose of MAVIS! Legal eagle, dislikes ANY critiscism of her scoring and beats people who dare to question her authority! Almost single-handedly enlightened the gents home fixtures with the elaborate use of the clubs digital scoreboard! Keep her sweet with a constant stream of tea and she'll be as right as rain! 2010 saw Helen become a HUGE JOE HART FAN (mainly due to her seeing him close up at St Andrews!) and up sticks to Woking, and on to her birthplace Birmingham (where she was finally reunited after almost a 20yr absence!). These days she has returned to her childhood town of Shanklin on the Isle of Wight, and with a cheeky young sprog Oliver as well!
We hope if she's ever in our neck of the woods she comes to cheer on the boys.
